There's often a story behind a wine estate, and Castello Romitorio is no exception! Although now in the hands of his son, Filipppo Chia, the famous Italian artist Sandro Chia purchased the Castello Romitorio from the local Baron (for 5 paintings!).
Located on a hilltop overlooking the Val d’Orcia, this wine growing estate based around the 12th century Castello Romitorio is located in Siena Province in Tuscany. Now in the hands of his son, Filippo Chia, the famous Italian artist Sandro Chia purchased the castle (for 5 paintings!) in 1983.
His Morellino di Scansano is a DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) wine. As well as needing to meet the requirements of a DOC wine, it is subject to a Ministry of Agriculture tasting. Each bottle carries a numbered seal of approval.
This a high quality and an eminently drinkable wine made from the classic Tuscan Sangiovese grape.
