The Lost Mexican Blanco is made from agave grown and distilled in Jalisco before being rested in Mezcal barrels on the wild Cornish Coast looking back across the Atlantic Ocean.
Nose: Fresh minerality with subtle hints of citrus and fresh grass.
Taste: Very smooth cooked agave flavour with lite peppercorn notes.
Finish: Long slightly spicy finish.
Of course it’s typically Cornish! Grab a bottle of our new Lost Mexican Agave Spirit and experience this unique collaboration between both sides of the Atlantic.
The Story
In early 1825, Stanley Kiernan, the son of a Penzance distiller, set sail from Falmouth with around 60 of his fellow Cornishmen and 1500 tons of mining machinery. They arrived in Mineral del Monte, Mexico, in May 1826, where they immediately set to work resurrecting the region’s derelict silver mines.
Before too long, the mines were up and running, the pasty was the new staple in town, and Stanley fashions a basic still out of damaged mining equipment. With the help of the locals and their succulent botanicals, he starts to experiment, and on that windswept hill in central Mexico, the world’s first Cornish-made mezcal is born – a recipe lost in time until now…
We’d love to share an elaborate, well-structured story with you here about how everything we’ve done led to this point. The truth is that we all worked and lived together in bars in central London. We made loads of friends, had lots of fun, and created all kinds of memories – most of which we can’t talk about on the website.
Maybe, more importantly, we all learned lots and lots about spirits and fell in love with their rich history. Abandoning the crowds of London for the wilds of Cornwall, we are pouring all that experience into Pocketful of Stones.
Here, we invite you to join in our journey…
