Husband and wife, Neil and Mandy Jenkins moved to Spain in 2000. While living in Elche the couple embraced the local culture and quickly grew their knowledge of the many family owned vineyards in the region.
On returning to the UK, the couple were horrified by the mass produced wine available in the supermarkets and equally dismayed by the high priced alternatives. That was when they decided to turn their hobby into an exciting new business venture.
“We got back home and thought surely it’s got to be possible to purchase decent quality wine without breaking the bank. In 2000 Mandy and I had been struck by the Spaniards lack of pretension about wine – they happily shared their knowledge if you expressed an interest. It’s this atmosphere of informal sharing and exploration that we want to replicate. We aim to offer great value to our customers, the chance to make new discoveries and grow their wine appreciation – in the same way ours had been nurtured in Spain.”
Eighteen months of intensive research followed and Twelve Green Bottles was born.
