Sangiovese is the main red grape of Tuscany and it appears throughout the region in everything from 100% Sangiovese wines to minor roles supporting modern-styled wines made of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In Chianti, wines must contain at least 70% Sangiovese. It’s easy to see why this versatile and appealing grape is Italy’s most widely planted. The thin-skinned Sangiovese typically makes wines that are light in colour with bright acidity, red cherry flavours and a nice herbal tone.

The grape blends well with international varieties, especially Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which achieve wonderful ripeness in the Tuscan sun. These wines have depth, roundness and warmth.

Contents of Case:

2 x Guidalberto Tenuta San Guido - A rich, intense, full-bodied red wine with intense red fruit, blackcurrant and spicy vanilla notes, followed by an extremely smooth finish. Easy drinking and pairs well with red meat and game.

2 x Le Difese Tenuta San Guido - A critically acclaimed bold, intense medium-bodied red wine with dried cherry, blackberry, spicy vanilla, leather and tobacco notes with a smooth finish. Pairs well with beef, lamb and venison.

2 x Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva - This Antinori family's historic label, since the 2011 vintage Marchese Antinori has been produced with grapes exclusively from the Tignanello vineyard. It's made almost entirely with Sangiovese with a small percentage of other complementary varieties. A wine that fully expresses the quality and elegance of Sangiovese grapes grown in this area.

2 x Serpaiolo Serpaia di Endrizzi Rosso Toscana - Aromas of tar and roses, bramble fruit flavours and bittersweet finish. Delicious with grilled herby lamb

2 x Tenuta Orsumella Chianti Classico -  A rich and full style of Chianti with good fruit intensity; dark cherry and ripe redcurrants with elegant tannins and hints of spice. A classic pairing with slow cooked ragu, charcuterie or bean stew.

2 x Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva  - This is a rich, modern Chianti that marries beautifully ripe cherry fruit with well-judged smoky oak notes. The opulence on the palate is tempered by savoury notes of clove and a firm structure supporting the plump fruit.
