Aluna was created by friends who loved great rums and fresh tasting, natural ingredients but were tired of spirits that were too sweet, with their flavours hidden behind a wall of sugar.
We loved the ocean, the mountains and finding a healthy balance in our lives, and wanted to pour a better drink at the end of the day when the sun set and the moon came out to shine her light on the good times!
First up was an all-natural toasted coconut rum, made with premium rums from Guatemala and the Caribbean with pure, sustainably sourced coconut water for a fresh coconut dimension and a wonderfully smooth mouthfeel. Awards, high fives and many good times followed and we knew we were doing the right thing.
A year or so later we released our second product; a coffee liqueur with the same mindful approach towards sugar, made using multi-layered flavours of 100% Arabica cold brew coffee, cacao nibs and subtle black cardamom. Great on its own, in an espresso martini, or poured over ice cream, it got a big thumbs up too.
The following summer we launched our Peach & Pomelo Liqueur, made with white peach, sweetened with coconut blossom nectar and balanced with the gentle citrus of pomelo. It is perfect with mixers or with sparkling wine as a lazy Bellini. (We discovered later that in Eastern tradition pomelo is the favourite fruit of the Moon Goddess - it was written in the stars!)
In 2021 we signed up to 1% For The Planet, committing to give a minimum of 1% of our total sales to environmental non-profits. Then in 2024 we found some great rum in Sri Lanka which blends beautifully with flavours from the region - spiced pineapple, pandan leaves, lemongrass and galangal - to make a fantastic subtly spiced rum. Perfect for simple sundowners, daiquiris with a twist or a juicy Jungle Bird.
We have some other ideas in the pipeline which we can't reveal just yet. But you can be sure that, as with all of our drinks, they will be mindfully made with natural ingredients, won't be dominated by sugar and will taste awesome. We are passionate about creating delicious drinks you can enjoy as part of an active, balanced lifestyle.
