Crystalline and pure, with flavours of apples, spices and white flowers. The palate is concentrated, with a waxy texture and a fine vein of acidity.
VINEYARD The grapes come from vines with an average age of 25 years, with clonal selections made from the 50-year-old Petrâcs vineyard. Vines are planted at a high density of 5660 plants per hectare at around 200 metres above sea level.
WINERY After gentle pressing, fermentation was carried out in new French and Hungarian oak barrels. The wine was then aged for a further eight months, with weekly batonnage carried out for the first three months.
In 1993, the Álvarez family, of Vega-Sicilia fame, established Bodegas Tokaj Oremus. The vineyards are spread over more than a dozen different hillside sites, of which ten were classified ‘primæ classis’ in 1803. Here the group is able to produce exceptional white wines, both dry Furmints and sweet Aszú styles, from 3 puttonyos up to the mythical Eszencia. All present the region’s unique combination of succulence and tang, and together showcase the amazing versatility of Furmint grown in this historic location.
